Event information
This event has passed.
We have a number of voluntary positions available for the upcoming indoor Reps season - selectors, coaches, managers and umpires.
Managers
- are responsible for keeping team members in good mental and physical health - if you are a parent you should be automatically equipped for this role.
- are responsible for keeping an eye on all of your team (not just your own child) and keeping team players up to date with information throughout the season.
- Make sure uniforms are organized if needed.
- Make sure teams attend training or have a valid excuse if thery can't attend. We do not want to waste team members and coaches valuable time or their Association or parents money (it all adds up into the fees parents pay) by paying for under used indoor facilities.
Coaches
- conduct practices, motivate players and instruct players in game strategies and techniques. All while making sure your team is having FUN while learning! Not qualified yet - offer to be an assistant coach and learn on the job.
Selectors
- look for players who have good basic skills (being able to receive the ball under control and being able to pass the ball accurately and timely),
- are great communicators ie getting players to learn & listen (most important part of communication),
- encourage team players to trust team mates and work together to achieve success, and achieve the mental toughness that means being committed, persistent and staying motivated when things don’t go a player's way, to have confidence, good decision making -where players have a calm and controlled state of mind, consistency, good fitness levels, speed & good vision.
- Think you have enough experience to help with this role then nominate. Interested in learning how to select? Let NWSHA know you want to learn how.
Umpire Coordinator
- find umpires for state champs who are best qualified for each age group and make sure umpire details get sent to Indoor Coordinator early enough before each state champs. Also make sure young umpires have accommodation and transport to games if they do not attend reps with family.
Umpire
- a person with the authority to make decisions on a hockey pitch in accordance with the rules of the game. Are you interested in learning how to umpire? Let us know and we'll organise your pathway.
If none of the above interests you but you still want to help your Association? NWSHA is always looking for the domestic engineers, logistic experts (ie organised, efficient parents & friends) who are willing to work from home creating our face book posts, team lists etc on our website. Think you have no computer training - not needed. We can teach the computer procedures but not the organisational skills.
Remember NWSHA's first preference is to have coaches & selectors who do not have their own children in their allocated team unless there are no other nominations (avoids perceptions of favouring own children). You will need a current WWC number and we offer a small gratuity to cover some expenses incurred in pre competition training commitments etc. If you think it's a large organisation & someone else will do it, think again - everyone is too anonomyous, too busy or doesn't care enough about the team except for a small & ever smaller handful of parents who volunteer. Please help - you don't need any experience except to put up your hand.
Regards
NWSHA Executive
